My Virtual Classroom Session 6: Targeting Multiliteracies in Building Digital Learning Tasks

“The practices of reading, writing and communication made possible by digital media.” —Hafner, Chik, and Jones (2015)

As you reflect on your teaching, particularly now that it has shifted online, are you still attempting the same old tasks using the same traditional approaches from your brick-and-mortar classroom? Or have you shifted somewhat but are still looking for new directions? This session provides a brief overview of how to target language learning through a multiliteracy lens. Specifically, the webinar focuses on a framework, tools, and digital resources to enhance and guide the design, development, and delivery of such activities as collaborative writing tasks, developing new kinds of texts, and improving student digital literacies — students know less than you think about technology! — while ensuring that program outcomes are being met. The presenter will also invite conversation around using authentic digital resources, participating in social media/online communities, and making cultural connections, all of which can develop student multiliteracies.
