Action-Oriented Approach

An action-oriented approach, as described in the CEFR, views the learner as a “social agent” who uses language to accomplish tasks.

An action-oriented approach, as described in the CEFR, views the learner as a “social agent” who uses language to accomplish tasks within specific domains (i.e., educational, occupational, public, and personal). This approach focuses on the needs of the learner to survive and thrive in real-life situations. The action-oriented approach promotes learner engagement and autonomy, and recognizes the social element of language use.
